Ah tiong movie Flying Swords of Dragon Gate directed by Tsui Hark.

Starring: Park Shin Hye. (who cares about the rest???????)

Plot: 8/10 GENERIC. but, plus 1 point for not presenting the Poor girl falling in love with the rich guy.
No Major minus points. (Crap like losing memory, body-switching, accidents, cancer, long lost siblings)
The ending's VERY rushed..... -1 point.
Overall 7/10

Acting: 8/10 Park Shin Hye's awesome (i ma biased). The guy, acting not bad. so it's good enuf for me.

OST: 9.5/10 MEMORABLE. WILL BUY THE OST IF CAN FIND. :) That's how good it is. Being a "musical" drama, mabbe that's why they put abit more effort in the songs.... :)

Cinematography: Not an expert, but the shots of park shin hye are quite good.... the rain scenes are well done :D

Progression: 6/10 abit too slow for my liking they spend too long emoing and stuff, but this is a staple of Korean dramas, so i am fine with it :)

watched a few korean dramas......
Almost died the day i watched "You're the apple of my eye" (the taiwanese movie) and the last few episodes of "Scent of a woman" heavy duty stuff!!!!!!!

Loved the subplots of scent of a woman and Secret Garden.....
The tango scene with the oncologist and the dying patient scene was much more heartfelt...
and secret garden, i simply adored the celebrity couple.... great chemistry together. rather than the hyun-bin/ha ji won couple where the plot of the rich daddy/grandma/etc opposing them from coming together is replayed so many times.
The main plots are ok ok only...
"Protect the boss" didn't have much of a subplot though the Ending was fantastic (a proper one, not the rushed type....)
"Sign" was really intriguing, with the plots and what-not, but the ending was abit meh.... feels rushed and contrived in my opinion.

It's really good to be alone, sometimes. that way you don't have face a host of problems. One problem is the maddeningly unjustified disappointment. u know u have no grounds to feel disappointed, but you just do and end up feeling so wretched.
Guess it's time to erase such disappointments. But taking the easy way out is my forte. I take note of my disappointments and promises made to me unfulfilled. I don't become bitter over the disappointments or hanker after the promises, but i darn well remember them and meaningfully distance myself from these people. Not that i am bitter, just that I remember the lessons learned from the experiences and interactions with these people.

So I reject people, in my own way. I can avoid conflicts and stop struggling between all these choices. I can don't face up to my selfishness. I can don't try to change divergent views. I don't try to influence anyone, and darn well stop people from influencing me.
to each his own. Create the invisible wall. Probably not the best solution, but definitely the safest and easiest solution.

before i begin, i just want to say this: Transformers:Dark of the moon sucks!

have you ever the sinking feeling before? you know, it's like as though your life is missing something, where you heavy and empty at the area around the chest.
but my life don't seem to have many burdens leh. not much problems except perhaps financially. still got friends that will hang around, give me presents during my birthday... still got a mom that cares and loves me alot... my studies also can pass lor...

is this sense of "sinkiness" due to mediocrity? i mean like i don't really have a passion for anything at all leh... take DoTA. I know I can play it properly, but i don't have the spirit to go form a team and play compy... I think this mediocrity is a curse in my life like since young always like that one... studies average....sports totally fail.... music CMI.... what else? arts cannot la.... erm... what is the one consistent thing i have done for the pass 10years??? maybe it's gaming la... but even my gaming results also quite CHUI. O_O In secondary school, i join uniform group but cannot even attain a commander's rank after 4years. i even join Taekwondo, got a brown belt in it and can kick 2 heads above last time... .lol had great passion for about 2 years then it tapered off.... haiz. didn't even complete my black belt!!!

=X in JC join Editorial club also not much impact or inspiration. my NS life also float through 2 years of doing nothing fruitful.

then now join bridge... i mean, i really like playing contract bridge but it's like i dun have the passion to pursue it and master it. -____- in nus i also dun really bother to try and make friends.... like so awkward to talk to ppl who seem and talk so smart hahaha... -.-

I love dramas, not movies. What makes a good drama???

1)Either the male or female lead must be in good in acting(need not be both). Luo Zi Xiang and Rainie Yang, Good, you are not.

2)The kissing scenes: either only 1 good one when we don't just see two lips forced on each other, or many awesome ones. =) yes rain, I am talking about you -.- so fu yan us viewers.

3)So long 1 is adhered to, the plot doesn't really matter. Yes. "The prince who turns into A frog" has a dumb lousy plot, but who cares so long I get to see Qiao En act? who cares? ^_^

4)If you can't act, and the plot SUCKS, at least be beautiful. and beautiful, Ariel Lin, YOU ARE NOT. I rather watch the horrendous Bianca Bai act=.=

5)The essence of a crying scene is that the girl doesn't really cry. Instead, tears well up in her eyes, and she shows it. the guy however, please cry, thank you very much. =)

Why English?

Now here the reasons why:

Why Not Literature?

I don't like reading ideas. If I want ideas, I would have watched dramas, which I do.

I am bad with adjectives. (See? I used the word 'bad'. Gasp.)

Literature allows for extrapolation of our own inane ideas, how we interpret the literary works we are reading. It gets too fluffy/philosophical/and sometimes purely non-sensical. And did I mention that I am bad with adjectives? How am I then going to articulate my own ideas?

There are too many books/readings (comparatively speaking.)

Why Not Communications And New Media?

One of my biggest regrets in my life is not trouncing my mother's expectations of me failing in poly. I should have just followed my heart and head down to Ngee Ann Poly's Mass Communications. Instead I succumbed to external pressures and went to Catholic JC Arts instead.

Abit of digression there, but I have tried the exposure Module now and it is maddeningly disappointing:

The theories are boring.

The lecturers are boring.

The readings are boring.

I know it will get better with the harder modules. I know that there is 3 tracks, and I know which track I will be interested in. But then, there is the allure of English, not to mention that teaching award-

Why not Economics?

I cannot do Mathematics. I want to do normative Economics. But there is qualitative Economics aka MATHEMATICS. I love Economics, but then.

Which brings me to...

English Language.

As ludicrious as it may seems, you do not have to be good in English to do well in English. This my first point.
It may sound perverse, but it is interesting to learn about very technical and scientific knowledge in topics like semantics and syntax. If you like to know about why do we need categories like nouns, adjectives, inflectional morphemes and transitive verbs, then English is for you.
I am running out of adjectives to describe how good English language is:
Comparatively, there is much lesser readings.

I mentioned in my facebook status:

ardently believes that the universe is designed, or at the very least, created. The mechanism used however, it's pretty much guesswork. the reason why it is created? Guesswork.

And now throw in: Who created it? Guesswork.

I meant guesswork not as an insult, but an educated guess, a guess with effort put in. Hence the namesake Guess-work.

I will like to state that the universe is created. All the philosophies aside (yes, this a philosophical question, not a scientic question.), there are 2 simple reasons that the universe is created.

Reason 1)
The universe have a beginning, aka, it has not lasted for eternity.
Nothing cannot come out of nothing, aka, if there is something, it must has come out of something.
Hence the universe has to be created, it has to be brought into existence.

Reason 2)
The vanishingly small probabilties in which a Universe can be conceived proved that there has to be a creator that purposefully engendered this process. It is virtually impossible for a random occurance to result in such harmony of equilibriums in the evidence of physics, biochemistry, biology and astronomy.
Even if the universe happened out of randomness, by reason 1, this randomness has to purposely brought about by an entity (notice the use of the word: entity is really used VERY loosely.) that is outside our dimension/realm/level/whatever word you can think of.

The questions to ask then is this:

How is our universe created?????
It is either created randomly, or designed.
Here, i am more concerned with the evidence of Biology.
What science gives us has been insufficient to explain all the various processes. Sources/Evidences are ALWAYS subjective, due to the historical and cultural context that affects the objectivity of it.
Evolution is insufficient to prove the mechanism of which biological life is created.
First: We have never observed evolution. yes, we have observed mutations, but no evolution. But what we have however, are sources: artefacts and fossils. Now this, i have a big issue. How can we prove our scientific hypothesis based on historical evidence? Remember i mentioned that all these evidence is subjective.
Evolution may still be true, if more evidence is uncovered, or if we are able to observe it, thus says the scientist.
However, the biggest problem is that we have no idea of what is the first link. There is a concept of a premordial soup or abiogenesis, which is basically unfalsifiable (like God's existence, gasp), yet is being postulated as a scientific hypothesis. I see lots of technical details. But what is unobservable remains an Educated Guess, a clever guess, but unfortunately a guess.

The other evidence is religious, which is basically unfalsifiable (Like evolution, like abiogenesis). I do not see any details in most relgious texts, mostly just statements of faith.

But, at this moment, we are not very clear in terms of the How. There maybe further evidence emerging, but i Believe that it will never be fully explained due to fact that the universe had a beginning. Do note that at this point, i utterly believe that there is a designer, a creator, a supernatural entity (note the avoidance of the word spiritualism) There is lots of scientific guesswork not just in terms of biology, but also in physics that i will not go into here.

The second question then, is WHO?
The scientific community has no interest in this question.
Interestingly, the other communities do have their own answers.
1)Religious entities --> The Abrahamic tradition, other monotheistic faiths, the polytheistic faiths and deism, plus a few million more. each claim that the other is false thus I cannot be sure who created it. I am pretty sure that there is one. Religious texts are historical in nature, and as i pointed out, there is a problem with historical evidence. The new religions are inadequate in their concept of the "Who", again being unfalsifiable.
2)Aliens(Supernatural) --> Aliens are used VERY loosely here, our human conception of Aliens are too limited. But this falls under pseudoscience and i am pretty sure both the religious and scientifc people are not really convinced. there is some semblance of evidence, that people try to debunk (Think UFOs, ETC ETC. yawn.). The problem is that we might never know that in the future if evidence will appear, so we cant just dismiss it like we dismiss evolution. there might new breakthroughs in science that helps to explain the phenomena.
3)Virtual Reality (By other humans/etc)--> this is a metaphysical/philosophical question that appeals to our reason: how do we know that what we are looking at is real? Not that I give a damn, but still a pretty strong appeal to our rationality: Too bad there is no evidence.
Hence, as can be seen, Guesswork. lots of it.

The most important question, however, is the "Why."

Science is not interested in the why.
The aliens... O_O
Even if this a virtual reality, it is not a skeptical hypothesis that should stop us from asking why.

Here religions cover lots of ground, but until then 2 questions need to be answered:

1) How do we reconcile all the different religions? Most religions are contradictory in nature, and each religion is convinced that (through 2 things, personal experiences with God + religious texts that point toward the reasons why the universe is created) their "Why" is the correct one. However the 2 things has teething problems.
Personal experiences with God(s): if A conflicts with B, how do we know whose experience is with that Particular God? Whose God is real then? A's God? or B's God? Remember both cite that the religious experiences that they have are very real to them.

Textual evidence: Again, i point out the problem of historical evidence. For example, The Bible we know of today is not a result of immediate appearance. It evolved over the centuries, with passages being removed and debated over, until it becomes what we know of today.
And which text is really real, if A says that I draw my facts from this text, and coupled with my personal experience, i prove that my God answers the "Why", the purpose in which we are created, and B says the exact same thing, but cite a Different God? How do we then prove that A or B is right? There is no empirical evidence, the texts are historical in nature just like the stupid fossils, and at this point there is chaos that we see today, when A insists that B's beliefs are wrong and demonic(???). Then at this point the fighting starts -.-

2) Why is the world so full of suffering? What is then our purpose of all these suffering????
This is a philosophical debate that can be avoided if we take a non-creationist stance and say that we are not created, but as i stated, that is impossible.
Again all the religions tries to (inadequately) answer this question, only Deism has the most merit (God created humans and went off to do other better things), but the monotheistic traditions also have some arguments as well. But this will take up so much space, so just leave it.
Aliens: maybe they just dun need reasons????
Virtual reality: a skeptical hypothesis that show our suffering is but an illusion. This might work out, but it is so hazy... O_O and philosophical... and it will hurt the scientists' ego. O_O and it is unfalsifiable -.-

And so ends my opinions. The ironic reason why i am so pushed to a creationist stance is due to scientific analysis that is not backed up by stupid fossils, but mathematics. cold hard mathematics.

P.S. Please do not just dimiss the aliens. Alien can defined as something strange and unfamiliar to us. Hence they can be just entities we do not comprehend, much like the Gods that propagates our belief systems. and they might be much prettier and handsomer :) than us. And, pls do not quote me in saying that i believe in Aliens. -_-

On the whole, my first semester in NUS has really been about playing
PH1102E: Last minute studying. Last minute reading for the weekly summaries except for one. Perpetually late for tutorials (9am in the morning, i will never take 9am lessons again. Oh wait next semester I should have one)
WP2201B: Never prepared much for the classes, impromptu presentations. Amount of time spend on doing up the papers were atrocious, and very last minute.
NM1101E: Ironically, this is the most boring module, but structured really well and extremely organised. Managed to cram for the midterms. Gave up on the finals though. Skipped about half the lectures, cause they were really borrrring.
JS1101E: Difficult module. Last minute project sprang a major surprise (B+). Final exam notoriously tricky. Didn't prepare for tutorial.
El101E: I struggled with this module, got the textbook late, but on the whole should get an average grade (hopefully, this is my Major!)

Some memories to keep:

What an eventful day today!! non-stop action! action-packed!
I posted a series of wishes yesterday, and some of them came true :D

I was on time for the Philosophy Tutorial at 9am!! Although the tutorial was a rather waste of time due to the content, I am glad I made it after being late last week. I also came rather close to quarrelling with my mom early in the morning over some trivial(on hindsight) issue, and I thank God that nothing happened.

On English Lecture: quite a disaster, i am really behind now, hope i can catch up on all my materials tomorrow (Free day! woohoo) As i forgotten to bring my glasses to school, i ended up disturbing Victor the whole lecture and trying to squint at the canvas screen.

After that was a rush to Jurong point to meet Daniel Au so that we can head down together to JCMC to celebrate the ORDing September Batch people!!! However, Daniel decided to be EXTREMELY late( i am not exaggerating here) and the repercussions were that I ended up late for my Japanese studies tutorial (no participations marks, SIANZ). Irony that I spend so much effort, waking up early to attend the Philosophy tutorial, to end up late in the another one. Having said that, i was really "high" during my visit to JCMC. It was nice to see Willie, Hafiz, Rauf , Wang Zhi, Ming Jie, Chin Soon, Shaiful and Redha still doing fine!!! REALLY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE MEDICS GOING ORDING THIS YEAR!!! that includes you ALVIN!!! and quite shiok to the new medics that ORD super late (got abit over excited about that, my apologies)

And talking about Japanese studies, woohoo! finally some tangible progress made! God is good. Deadlines were set for us to draft our 500word hypotheses essay, and to describe our sources. I volunteered to collate the essays and to present them in a coherent manner. I hope I can do a good job, being the only Arts student in my project group! Now a deadline is set, hope everyone meet it(including me. I like deadlines for project work. It suggests 2 things: there is some progress, and there is a sense of urgency)
Rush after rush.

After that is going to SOC for the Teaching Award Seminar by MOE. I am really interested in what MOE has to offer us if we choose Teaching as a career path. In this case, I might need to modify my modules, but I have high expectations for this one. This is really important for my career after I graduate, so I will give this a serious thought before taking the plunge (the bond is 4years including the 1 year at NIE getting postgraduate education diploma woo!! Initially i thought will be 5 years).

Finally is bridge!!! Ironically, my partner Antoine and me were both late and we ended up not playing points for our few games. We had a unique game though:
Spades were the trump, I had 4 spades, Antoine had none.
My right opponent was the dummy, and VOID in hearts. After 1 round of playing clubs, the left opponent ruffed my clubs. Thus now both sides are void in 2 suits, setting up a PERFECT situation for drawing trumps. they can keep dumping hearts and clubs while we have to follow suit and they cross-ruff beautifully.
However the left opponent when to draw trump(!!!) and wasted a trick!!! what's more the drawing of trumps failed after Antoine broke, showing void in spades and a 4-0 distribution. by then it was too late for them to fulfill the 3spades contract. A closer look was a GAME contract due to the unique distribution!!
i was amazed by this because i always thought the situations presented in the "learn to play bridge" program are too incredulous to be true... this really absorbed me into the intricacies of bridge!! i really hope me and Antoine can play well enough to represent team NUS someday!!! :D :D

Phew, that's alot of things happening in one day isn't? luckily tomorrow is a FREE DAY!! Yay, but still must study, alot of things on the agenda haha hope i can pace myself tomorrow, AND NOT GET distracted :)

almost forgot to blog today!!!

Today's cnm's lecture reached a new low! Dr. Giorgios earns the award for being the most boring lecturer so far. Sure, he is knowledgeable and knows how to conduct a lecture, but the way the lesson goes, it just so darn borrrrrrring... thank goodness he manages to avoid an F by introducing relevant new media material in the lecture. We got to see the viral video on hitler with the hilarious subtitles... however, the theory of social media is soooo boring, the perfect example of money used to "chimify" a simple new concept.

Models of press freedom was better, at least we learn something new today... I thought i did ok presenting my Herman article, though i still get butterflies in my stomach when presenting in front of the class. Good to know that Kai is a closet conservative, and not libertarian lol...

That's about all for today.. tomorrow will be a loonggg day... hope the JS project can progress a little bit, that i can make it for philosophy tutorial on time, that i can understand the English lecture(tall orderrr) and a great time at JCMC!!! :D :D :D

today's retrospective!

had CGM today, heart wasn't really on it. I dunno whether to feel happy or sad. lol

Anyway, going to week 4 le (or is it week 5)!!! so far university life has been ok, with a lot of my very high expectations not met- but isn't it always so? NUS is overcrowded-period. but so long a quota needs to be fulfilled, people will still keep streaming in every single year... given how competitive it can be to get into NUS, i have better buck up!!! after all many are not able to get in, so GAMBATTE!!!
after cgm went to ION, had takoyaki, try to make sense of Xavier aw (As usual), talked about girls (as usual). Went Daiso, and they have this extremely cute pencil box!!! it's jeans material with a japanese cute cat engraved on it. 2$ but i can't afford so i went home...

tmr lesson is CNM lecture BUT i haven even do last week's reading, this week dunno how lol. same for japanese studies and english. only philosophy is up to date and only because they require us to do the readings to be able to summarize it every week. it's graded so no choice (according to philosophers, the choice is don't do) must do and hand in every week.

Models of press freedom is moving on the paper2 phase. i am still not really sure what they are driving at. so tmr's lesson shld help.

Many things to do, should have enough time if i practice proper time management. But i never did it in my life before. GG

I woke up at One pm. much to my chagrin, i was subsequently subjected to maddeningly crazed families members who if i stayed with for the whole afternoon, i will probably end up in heaps of rubble. i promptly made my exit, without taking of my study materials. Saturday is not meant for suffering, i mean, studying. Ths time, at the attributes counter, i was the first to comment on delia's height, who is serving today. lol... today i am taller again!! (despite her claim that she is 0.something cm taller than me) probably is because of the army cheat PT shoes i am wearing...
I picked a few good(i can only hope) source materials for my Japanese studies project yesterday, but i still don't like the way it is heading. "Japanese people are conservative." wth? I CANT S/U the damn thing!!!
now waiting for the service to start. there is no internet connection in expo. looks like i underestimated the importance of having wireless internet access(WiFi ?? no idea) on school campus.
I miss renfred. hopes he will a real man after coming out of tekong this thursday!!!

Today was more light, had to rush my assignment on "what does it feel like to be a bat?". I wrote completely crap, as can be determined from 2reasons
1)I believe any reader who reads my summary would need me to explain to them verbally what it means, which shows that the summary failed
2)I myself can't even explain what I wrote
I would be lucky to get a 2 of out 4...

Anyway, had the philosophy lecture again today. As usual it's a mind-screwing (i hesitate to use to the F-word cause it is overused seriously and it's so diluted in meaning and impact.), and we are always left with more questions than answers after the lecture. But the lecturer seem to be in inspired form again today. I am convinced that our mental consciousness is not a physical phenomenon. :)

Had a quick CNM tutorial, again, i was labelled as a IRAS spokesman ( lol), thanks to you leeming!!! but i was just using a concrete example to show the digital divide in Singapore barhs... and now we have a timing for our next week's meeting... 4pm at hari raya!!! hopefully i will have all the raw data by then so that i do not have to forge it!!!

anyway that's about all, but i am still in the school library(at this hour? Friday? wth). I snooped around for the 3 academic sources i am suppose to look for. I think our japanese studies project is totally screwed.

i promised to keep blogging, so here goes.

Today is a rather normal day. However, there is lots of concern about my intended major, English language(not to be confused with english literature). Today's tutorial was phonetics again, this time focusing on vowel sounds. I catch no ball sia!!! I really do not have the epitude for phonetics. I mean, i can distinguish between the really close sounding vowels, but I fail when it comes to articulating them. Morever, I can't seem to be able to figure out the different vowel sounds when incorporated into words. I can only hope for phonetics to be quickly done and get over with, and move on to much more interesting topics like Syntax and Semantics!!!
The Japanese studies lecture was borrrrrring once again, nothing much to glean from other than the usual enquiry into history and how we must again look at things(in this case Samurai) objectively based on historical facts and avoid falling into common stereotypes, ignoring the bad and only remembering the good. In the end the lecturer just ends up narrating the divorce procedures of the different eras (link to samurai?!), which basically means I can read the lecture slides at the comfort of my home, thank you very much.
Models of press freedom was alright, i really had an eye-opener studying about libertarianism, but what are we suppose to actually write for paper 2? there is actually alot of skirting around, but no real purpose. And we are like nomads, being forced to move around... today's discussion ended up in engine faculty, a place i never thought i will even have a lesson in. Never count your chickens before they are hatched. who knows you might end up doing things that you never think you will do.

Going for the first offical bridge meeting!! yay.
Need to study "what does it feel like to be a bat!!!" yay, the things that they ask you to study in university, you will never believe it. -.-
(actually, it's philosophy, specifically something about physicalism, AND y did i take philosophy in the first place? O.O)

in a valient attempt to save this blog, I shall start narrating(WTh) my life.

Today is my free day. However i had to go back to school and start working on my projects. that being said, I still can't believe that I have 4 projects this semester. Even English module has a project.

I turned in around 1pm to meet Xavier, Victoria, LeeMing and i-can't-remember-oh-dear at the central library. It is not a very difficult topic to approach and we had a fruitful discussion, drafting out a few questions for our field survey.
However, the Japanese studies discussion was a unmitigated disaster. I had a topic, a framework, and factors. The academic sources regarding the economy of Japan should not be difficult to find. My idea was shot down, so I "eagerly" awaited with bated breath for any alternative topics. However, the next 15 minutes was spend looking at each other and throwing random generalisations at each other. I went to hide around facebook(Again), and finally viola, we have something about dual-culture in Japan. And I have to look for sources that illustrate something about the superiority of the Japanese race.
I did not object because i Don't see the point, so I will do my best for whichever task i am assigned to do. If I object we will have to brainstorm new ideas again, and I do not want to hear any generalizations again.
The problem is, all the 3 people in my group can S/U the damn thing and i can't.

Tonight, heading down to Jurong Point to eat a very expensive dinner. I don't see the point in objecting again. After all, IT IS teacher's day.

If you learn to say to no, you are only creating more trouble for yourself.
I conform, i compromise, i divide.

I am always impressed by my peers' blogs. Somehow they are able to capture their lives in words, while I am remain utterly confounded. Even if their language may not be extremely fluent or flowery, they are able to narrate with raw emotions and evoke a sense of pathos in the reader.

My mouse was destroyed on Saturday, when engrossed with telling my mom directions, i accidentally pour A CUP of elderflower tea over my mouse. next thing i knew, my mouse died. I have to stop using computer for 3 agonizing computers and also to humble myself and use my bro's laptop.
Fast forward to today, i was desperate to use the computer and was trying to navigate my way through using the keyboard... when i ventured to the mouse again and tada! THE POINTER MOVED. OMGOSH.

The inaugural asian youth games is from 29th june to 7th july. it is carried out in prep for the inaugural Youth Olympic games in 2010.

Sian la, have to go as volunteer (..) represent SAF as a paramedic in the games. Have to be professional in dealing with all this national athletes... but my practical skills always very chui one....
